Does the usage of electronic cigarettes help smokers kick the habit, and if so, are there any bad side effects to this?

Electronic cigarettes, often known as e-cigarettes, work by heating a liquid, usually containing nicotine and flavourings. These gadgets are small enough to be held in one’s hand. Electronic cigarette use is colloquially referred to as “vaping” when the term “vaping” is used. E-cigarettes have been shown to be effective in helping former smokers quit the habit. We’ll only be looking at e-cigarettes that contain nicotine in this study.

Lung cancer, heart attacks, and a slew of other diseases may be prevented by quitting smoking. Many people find it difficult to give up smoking. We wanted to know whether electronic cigarettes may help people stop smoking and if those who use them experience any side effects as a result of doing so.

It is up to us to draw any conclusions from our research.

Electronic cigarettes that contain nicotine are more effective than nicotine-free e-cigarettes or nicotine replacement therapy in helping smokers stop for at least six months (5 studies, 1447 people).

9 out of every 100 individuals who use nicotine e-cigarettes to stop smoking had a better probability of succeeding than those who use nicotine replacement therapies, 7 out of 100 people who use nicotine-free e-cigarettes, or 4 out of 100 people who get no help or just behavioural support. This is a big step forward.

The most important aspects.

E-cigarette users are more likely to succeed in stopping smoking for at least a year than those who do not use them. There is a strong likelihood that they outperform nicotine replacement therapy and e-cigarettes without nicotine.

In certain cases, they may be more beneficial than getting no treatment at all or just behavioural assistance, and they may not be associated to any substantial harmful effects.

The impacts of e-cigarettes, especially newer forms of e-cigarettes that have greater nicotine delivery than previous types of e-cigarettes, require additional research before we can be certain. Newer forms of e-cigarettes need further research before their effects may be confidently predicted.
